This tool creates a Web page others can use to install software products over a LAN. Use this tool on the machine that contains/will contain the software you want to distribute.

Requirements:

  1. The software distribution must be located on the host machine where the Web Software Distribution Page will be created and reside (use this tool on that machine). If the software is on a CD we provide instructions below for how to get it onto the host machine.
  2. To use this tool you must have Root access to the host machine (this machine).
  3. The host machine (this machine) must have a guest account and must *not* have a guest account password. * Check for Guest Account * Creating A Guest Account

Instructions:

  1. Copy the software product installation files into a directory on the host machine. If the software for which you would like to create a Web Software Distribution Page is on a CD and you would like assistance, see How to Create a Software Distribution Directory from CD.
  2. Use the command line tool /usr/etc/webdist to generate your Web Software Distribution Page from the software distribution directory. See the webdist man page for more information.
(The web form interface to webdist was removed in IRIX 6.5 for security reasons. See the OutBox release notes for more information.)
